Provider Impacts of Socioeconomic Risk Screening and Referral Programs: A Scoping Review

Background: Initiatives to identify and intervene on patients9 socioeconomic needs in the context of health care delivery are expanding. Little information has been compiled across studies providers9 knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, behaviors (KABB) regarding risk screening referral interventions. Methods: We conducted a systematic scoping review KABB related care–based interventions using several search engines. Included assessed about clinical settings. Results: Of 14,757 evaluated, 53 were eligible for inclusion. Study designs heterogeneous. Outcome measures included attitudes beliefs (n = 42), provider 35), knowledge 26). The majority providers expressed positive toward addressing risks. Participants endorsed concerns insufficient resources, time workflow disruption, potential negative impacts programs relationships. Exposure led increases rates, reported intervention options. Conclusions: Participation seems influence perception implementation barriers. Future research should explore identified risks.
